MARIETTA UMPIRES NEW MEMBER INSTRUCTIONS

**This Registration is for Officials that were NOT members of MUA last season.  If you were a member last season, exit and go to "Returning Member Registration"

We are pleased with your desire to join Marietta Umpires Association (MUA).  We strive to be the best baseball official's organization in the state.  Our training sets the standard by which other associations are judged, and is the cornerstone of our success.  New officials, as well as seasoned veterans, receive extensive training throughout our preseason training period.  It is important that you attend every meeting, training session and scrimmage possible. We understand that nothing trains new officials better than being on the field with our veteran officials.  Therefore, you will be able to work some scrimmages during the preseason and JV games during the year with veteran officials.  It is the training and expererience gained through these sub-varsity games that allows our new officials to move up the ranks faster than ever before.

TRAINING MEETINGS

  • There will be 6 mandatory training meetings on Tuesday nights from 6:00 to 8:30 pm
  • There will be 3 mandatory mechanic session on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm
  • You will be given a calendar with all the dates, times and locations of these meetings.  You can also access the calendar at the Marietta Umpires website by clicking Here.
  • Members are fined for missing any of these meetings, the fines will be assessed against your end-of-year earnings.
  • There will be a GHSA camp one Satruday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.  GHSA mandates you must attend this training session once every two years.
  • There is a mandatory rules clinic that you must complete online.
  • Use of tobacco products on school grounds is strictly prohibited at games or training sessions

UNIFORMS AND APPEARANCE

  • Each official is responsible for obtaining and wearing the proper uniform which consists of: dark blue shirt, heather gray pants, GHSA logo navy blue hat, dark blue t-shirt, black belt, black socks, and black shoes.
  • Plate gear includes: chest protector, shin guards, mask, cup, and plate shoes
  • Hair should be neat and not touching the collar.

GAME ASSIGNMENTS

  • Normal progression usually includes sub-varsity games for 2 years before advancing to varsity.
  • All game officials must be on site 45 minutes before game time.
  • No alcoholic consumption 24 hours before any game time.
  • Games are assigned on Arbiter (computer access is required)
  • Officials are expected to be on time for all aqssignments.

DUES & GAME FEES

  • Dues are $70 and will be paid online at the end of this registration.
  • There is also a $10 fee for your criminal background check.
  • Officials are paid at the end-of-year banquet.  This is usually held the Tuesday after the State Championship Series
  • Pay for games, before booking fees are: JV - $66 and Varsity - $74
  • All game fees are determined by GHSA.
  • You are an independent contractor and will be issued a 1099 if your income exceeds $600.

Officiating with MUA takes a dedicated and committed individual.  It is a rewarding experience, and th efriendships and camaraderie that develop are irreplaceable.  If you fit into this category, then we welcome youu to the MUA team.
