Use of Electronic Devices

To all CWOA members,

The Colorado High School Activities Association has clarified their stance on the use of any electronic devices on the mat.  The CHSAA Wrestling Preview Bulletin states:

"Electronic Devices - No electronic devices will be permitted on the mat or at the head table at any time (including coaches and managers)".

Contrary to what may have previously been presented, electronic devices are not to be allowed on the mat.  Electronic devices may not be used on the mat for video recording, scorekeeping, voice recording, etc.  Attached to this email is a statement from Harry Waterman detailing CHSAA's stance and reasoning.  It is highly recommended that all COWA members print a copy of the attached statement and have it in their possession at each event they officiate.

If you have any questions please contact your Area Director(s) or an Executive Committee member.

Thank you for taking the time to familiarize yourself with this situation,

Rob Ververs
Vice President
Colorado Wrestling Officials Association

To answer your question, no electronic devices will be permitted on the mat at any time. I don’t want officials or administrators to have to monitor whether a coach/manager is filming from the corner or keeping stats. This will help with safety as well as the potential for a coach attempting to challenge a call with an electronic device on the mat.

Harry Waterman
Assistant Commissioner
Colorado High School Activities Association
